Coleman Mini MicroPacker Lantern Review

I’ve reviewed a number of Colelman camping products and haven’t come across a sub-standard product yet. So it’s no surprise that the Coleman Mini MicroPacker Lantern is a great little lantern. It’s one of the least expensive camping lanterns on the market and if you ask me is a steal.

If it’s an inexpensive and no-fuss lantern you’re looking for this is it. It’s lightweight, portable, and hits the sweet-spot where great value meets a useful little camping accessory.

Setup and design features

The main selling points of this lantern is how inexpensive and durable it is. You need to know what you’re buying into when you buy a product. I’m not going to tell you this is a powerful lantern that will light up the campsite and do all the things more expensive models like the Rayovac does. It won’t.

But it does what it’s designed to do incredibly well, as you’d expect from a Coleman product. It’s lightweight at just 7 oz, it’s rugged and ready, you don’t need to worry about it breaking in your backpack, and you get around 3-4 days continual use.

It’s not just a lantern too. It’s a 2-in-1 lantern and flashlight that snaps between functions. If you need concentrated light then just snap into the flashlight, if you want to set a lantern down to do some reading or relax then use it in lantern form.

I hope you like yellow, because it comes in yellow. It’s hard shatterproof plastic, don’t be shy about using it in any conditions. It has a hook on the top as you’d expect from a lantern so you can hang it off a branch or hook. The LED’s last a lifetime, so the only parts you will be replacing from now until you stop using it are the 3-AA batteries.Coleman Mini MicroPacker Lantern Review

If you’ve landed here looking for a powerful Coleman lantern I will direct you to the Coleman Twin LED Lantern. This model knocks out a massive 390 lumens and comes in at a decent price. The MicroPacker is different animal, it’s a lightweight rugged little lantern that produces enough light to help you navigate round the campsite or on a hiking trail.

This model is perfect for all you lightweight and minimalist backpackers too at just 7 oz. You’ll hardly notice it in your backpack and it makes a great backup for your main light source.

Insider Tips

I have a useful tip here based on some customer feedback. The better quality batteries you use, not only will the lantern last longer but it will be brighter too. This model becomes slowly dimmer as the batteries run down, so start with good batteries and you will get a longer and more useful life from it. It takes 3 x AA batteries, and as a prepared camper I’m sure I don’t need to remind you to take spares!

Coleman Mini MicroPacker Lantern Summary

You shouldn’t be camping without a reliable source of light and a backup. This lantern fits the bill for either of those. I covered all the specifics above, you should have a good idea if it’s what you’re looking for. But regardless of what you will be using it for, you can rely on not to let you down and that’s a big plus.
