Dpower Ultralight Backpacking Stove Review
This Dpower Ultralight Backpacking Stove is a lightweight, foldable, remote canister stove. Remote canister stoves are known for having a low center of gravity, making them stable when cooking with larger pots. They are pretty useful on uneven ground, and this Dpower model is no exception.
It’s a powerful little stove too, capable of producing around 10,000 BTU’s. It comes in at an extremely affordable price and has a lot of positive feedback, so it’s well worth taking a closer look if you’re in the market for a small remote stove.
The Piezo ignition means it fires up easily, so this is definitely one for you no-fuss campers.
Setup and Design Features
The Dpower camping stove folds up into a compact position, and easily folds out and is ready to use in just a few seconds. It has a stainless steel mesh gas pipe, and canisters can be safely exchanged during cooking. So running out of gas needn’t be an excuse to disturb a cook, and it’s simple for a first time users to do.
It uses a Piezoelectric Ceramic Ignition and can be fired up easily in all weather conditions. The stove top can accommodate pans up to 12″ in diameter, and with a low center of gravity and a non-slip surface your pots are pretty safe on there. The max output reaches 10,000 BTU, so power isn’t a drawback either.

You get a handy mesh carry bag to keep everything in one place and a user manual in the box. But anyone with experience using camping stoves will know what to do, it’s very user-friendly and easy to set up.
Comparison Information
The Dpower is similar in design to the Primus Omnifuel gas canister adapted version. As you may know, the Omnifuel has an additional feature in that it can use liquid fuel as well. But, the Dpower comes in at a much lower price point. You could save yourself over $100 by going with the Dpower stove reviewed here.
Some of the lesser known brands are known to cut corners. But the Dpower is manufactured with a high quality finish, and has proven to be very durable with a long list of positive feedback.
The low center of gravity is also something that sets this stove apart from others like the MSR Pocket Rocket for example. It’s very unlikely the Dpower will tip, even when playing host to large pots and pans. The wide top arms add some extra stability when carrying skillets and wider pans.
I cooked some salmon on a skillet, and there was no risk at all of it tipping. The fuel canister connects easily and locks in tight, and sits far enough away from the flame to make you feel at ease.
You can hook up straight butane or butane-propane mixed fuel canisters, so pick your fuel of choice.
It boils 1 liter of water in around 5 minutes. This means it holds its own well against other stoves in its class. However it’s the control over the flame that really sets it apart from other stoves in my opinion. I was able to hold a perfect simmer with no problems, turning it up to boil water when needed.
The Pros
- Strong aluminum alloy and stainless steel construction
- Low center of gravity and wide base gives good stability
- Sensitive flame control for extra efficiency and simmering
- Ultralight and folds down for easy of transport
The Cons
Insider Tips
The stove comes with a mesh carry bag, but you need to take care of the hose. It’s attached to the stove and doesn’t detach, so be careful not to put too much stress bending the hose in your backpack.
I haven’t seen this become a problem for any users, but it’s something worth mentioning and being aware of.
Dpower Backpacking Stove Summary
At this price, the Dpower is a must have item for an emergency backup kit, backpackers who want a light, no fuss stove, or the budget minded. Personally I am very impressed with this stove, and it will continue to accompany me on many trips.
Weighing less than 5 ounces you’ll hardly even notice it in your backpack, and pulling it out as a side burner for the extra help is always an option.
Conclusion
Taking into account all the features of this stove, I can’t think of a
better stove in this price range. The Dpower Ultralight Backpacking Stove is the
best choice if you’re looking for a great all-rounder, at a steal of a
price.

Just received and tested the stove, after 5 minuets the gas started to leak from the connection pipe where it is connected to the burner and caught fire, fortunately I was testing the stove outside at the time and managed to switch it off before it exploded.
I have notified the supplier and am waiting on response.
Suggest you test it before camping.
Thanks for the information. I had not noticed any problems but this is a major concern. I’ll make sure to note the issue on the main review above until I hear back from the supplier. Can you let us know when you hear back?
Same problem, really dangerous !
O-ring in connection release gas in proximity of flames….
This burner is totally made in China re-marked on other brands: i have “LIXADA” 7$ in aliexpress.
Greetings from Italy
Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like there are some major issues with this one.
Same problem. Used the Dpower last weekend at camping. While boiling some eggs, the gas leaked at the bottom connection for the hose and catches fire. The rubber O-ring melted. It was ok when I tested for 5 mins. Bought it at Ebay several months ago. Hoping to find a replacement hose or o ring.
Thanks for the feedback Larry! I will try to connect with the company and see if they have fixed this issue or have plans to address it.
